Law Offices of Boucher & Kanan
Divorce
Divorce proceedings can be a very scary reality. At Boucher and Kanan, we recognize the stress and range of emotions client's experience during divorce and family law disputes: fear of losing children, fear of financial insecurity, fear of cost, and fear of "more" fighting and increased stress. We are committed to answering questions, giving informed legal advice, and aggressively protecting our client's interests, while being sensitive to the stress and pressures caused by this difficult process.

Michigan is a no fault divorce state, which means that you do not have to show fault in order to get a divorce. However, fault can be used as a factor in both property settlement and child custody issues. The law in Michigan is that each spouse is entitled to 1/2 of all marital assets (property acquired during the marriage) regardless of who bought it or whose name is on the title or mortgage - with very limited exceptions.

Boucher and Kanan has successfully represented many individuals in divorce proceedings, ranging from simple cases with no disputed issues to high conflict cases with extremely complex child custody, property division, support, and parenting time issues. Our cross over expertise in criminal, family law, and child abuse and neglect cases creates a specialty in high conflict custody and divorce matters involving allegations of abuse or neglect.
